Installing Switch Pros on a Can-Am Maverick R: Location, Load Planning, and Start Button Integration
The Switch Pros SP-9100 and SP-RCR Force-12 install in the Can-Am Maverick R using the same basic approach as the X3 — dedicated power feed, ground, optional ignition key integration — but with Maverick R-specific mounting hardware and Maverick R-specific wiring run paths. The Right Mount for the Maverick R
Do not use a Can-Am X3 Switch Pros mount on a Maverick R. The Maverick R's dash mounting geometry is different from the X3. Reed Made Speed makes two platform-specific Maverick R mounts:
- Can-Am Maverick R 8-Channel Mount — for Switch Pros SP-9100 (8-switch panel)
- Can-Am Maverick R 12-Channel Mount — for Switch Pros SP-RCR Force-12 (12-switch panel)
Both mounts are CNC-machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum, and bolt to factory Maverick R mounting points using existing hardware. No drilling. No dash modification. The factory start button is incorporated into both mounts — it unplugs from its factory position and re-plugs at the mount face, the same procedure as on the X3.
SP-9100 or Force-12 for the Maverick R?
The Maverick R is typically a higher-spec build than the average X3 — more accessories from the start, more lighting, more communication gear. The Force-12's 12 circuits accommodate a fuller build without running out of switch positions. If your planned accessory list is already at six or seven circuits, start with the Force-12 rather than upgrading later.
Typical Maverick R full-build circuit list: front light bar, rear chase bar, rock lights, pod lights, compressor, winch trigger, intercom, heated seats, camera system, spare × 3. That is twelve circuits exactly — the SP-9100 runs short at eight. Plan for what the vehicle will be at two years of ownership, not just at install day.
Wiring the Switch Pros in a Maverick R
Power Feed
Use the included 4 AWG welding cable with 125A inline fuse from the Maverick R battery positive terminal to the SP-9100 power module. The included cable is 2.5 feet — for runs up to 18 feet use 4 AWG welding cable; for runs beyond 18 feet step up to 2 AWG welding cable. Protect the power feed run with expandable wire sleeving secured with heat shrink at the ends — the Maverick R's higher-output engine produces more underhood heat than the X3.
Ground
Use the included ground wire from the SP-9100 power module to the battery negative terminal or a dedicated ground lug at the battery. If extending beyond the included ground wire, match the gauge of your positive feed.
Ignition Key Integration
The SP-9100 and Force-12 integrate with the Maverick R ignition using the Light Blue Ignition Wire in the 16-pin output harness. Splice this wire into a switched 12V source at the factory harness — use a multimeter to identify a wire that reads 12V with the key on and zero with the key off. Connect using an open barrel crimp covered with adhesive-lined dual-wall heat shrink, or a sealed solder butt connector. When the key is on, the SP-9100 powers on with it. The fuse block layout in the Maverick R differs from other BRP platforms — identify the correct ignition-switched wire before making any connection. The SP-9100 does not connect to or communicate with the vehicle's CAN bus.
Load Planning for the Maverick R
The Maverick R's higher-output electrical system means the charging system can sustain a heavier combined accessory load than the X3's base electrical system. The SP-9100's 125A limit still applies — you are planning to the SP-9100's capacity, not the vehicle's alternator capacity. At sustained full load, the SP-9100 draws up to 125A from the battery/alternator system — the Maverick R's alternator has the capacity to service this alongside the primary vehicle electrical demand.
Standard load planning process: list every accessory with sustained amp draw, sum the circuits that will run simultaneously, confirm combined draw is below 125A (SP-9100) or 150A (Force-12), and set per-circuit overcurrent thresholds in the Switch Pros app.
