The Complete Switch Pros Setup for Your Can-Am X3

The Complete Switch Pros Setup for Your Can-Am X3

Installing a Switch-Pros system in your Can-Am X3 is one of the best upgrades you can make. Clean accessory control, no relay boxes, Bluetooth app integration — it transforms how your build works.

But the Switch-Pros unit itself is only part of the equation. The mount, the grounding, and the wiring all determine whether your install looks and performs like a professional build or an afterthought. Here's everything you need to do it right.

Step 1: Choose Your Switch-Pros System

Before anything else, you need to know which Switch-Pros system you're running. The two options for most X3 builds are the 9100 (8-channel, 125A) and the RCR (17-channel, 150A). The mount, ground block, and connector kit are all specific to your system — they're not interchangeable.

Step 2: The Mount

The Switch-Pros panel needs to live somewhere in your dash. The factory start button location is the cleanest option — it's the right size, it's in a natural hand position, and replacing it with a billet aluminum mount gives you a factory-finished look with no exposed holes or fabrication.

Reed Made Speed CNC-machines billet aluminum mounts for the Can-Am X3, for both the 9100 and RCR systems. They integrate directly into the factory dash location with all hardware included — no drilling required.

Step 3: The DESS Plug

When you install the Switch-Pros mount in the factory start button location, you don't have to relocate your DESS key. But a lot if people do. The DESS system can't be removed — it requires the factory key lanyard to start the vehicle and must always be mounted in plastic. Most builders relocate it to a hidden location under the dash or in a storage area.

That leaves the original DESS port in your console open. Our billet aluminum DESS block-off plug fills that opening cleanly — same machined finish as the mount, with no exposed hole.

Step 4: The Ground Block

This is the step most builders skip — and the one that causes the most problems later.

Grounding your Switch-Pros accessories to the chassis at multiple points is the leading cause of intermittent electrical problems in off-road builds. Vibration, corrosion, and temperature swings degrade chassis ground points over time, causing flickering, false triggers, and accessories that misbehave in ways that are nearly impossible to diagnose on the trail.

A ground block provides a single central, sealed termination point for all your accessory grounds. Every output runs to the block. The block runs a single heavy negative cable directly to the battery. One ground path, one point to inspect, zero chassis ground failures.

Step 5: Wiring

The ground block ships with everything needed to build your harness — the connector, terminals, and negative cable are included based on the configuration you select at checkout. You'll size and cut each circuit to reach your accessories, then terminate with a soldered heat-shrink butt connector at each accessory end. Plan for the time to do it right — a clean wiring job is what separates a professional build from one that causes problems later.

What does a complete Switch-Pros setup for the Can-Am X3 include?
The Switch-Pros 9100 or RCR unit, a billet aluminum mount for the factory dash location, a DESS block off plug for the original DESS port, and a ground block for centralized accessory grounding. All Reed Made Speed components are made in the USA with US materials and tools.
Why do I need a ground block if the Switch-Pros already has built-in circuit protection?
The Switch-Pros manages power distribution and overcurrent protection on the positive side. The ground block handles the negative return path. Without a proper ground block, you're still grounding accessories to the chassis at multiple points — which is the leading cause of intermittent electrical problems in off-road builds.
Can I install the Switch-Pros mount without relocating the DESS key?
No. The Switch-Pros mount replaces the factory start button location, so the DESS key must be relocated. It must always be mounted in plastic — never metal or carbon fiber. The original DESS port is then filled with a billet block off plug.
Are the 9100 and RCR components interchangeable?
No. The mount, ground block, and connector kit are all specific to your Switch-Pros system. They are not interchangeable between the 9100 and RCR.
Where are Reed Made Speed components made?
Every component is CNC-machined in Woodland, CA, with US materials and tools — not assembled from imported blanks. Made in the USA, start to finish.
